Men’s Mental Health
Mental Health is often seen as something that women take more seriously than men. Times are changing and, thankfully, more and more men are noticing the benefits of addressing their mental health concerns.
Men can experience the same mental health challenges as women; anxiety, depression, body image negativity, parenting overwhelm, grief, and other issues. However, the stigma around men taking control of these problems has kept many men from growing and improving their lives and relationships.
Symptoms of mental health concerns in men may look like:
Feeling numb, or emotionally disconnected
Increased alcohol or substance abuse
Trouble sleeping or constant fatigue
Agressive, violent, or controlling behavior
Escapist behavior; such as obsession with work or hobbies
According to NAMI, in 2023, among US men age 18 and older, only 45.9% with a mental illness received treatment in the past year.
